Righteous Living Part 3

Holy or Profane that is the Question

Profanity is the effort of a feeble brain to express itself forcibly.

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. Ephesians 4:29

“The words we speak are important. The Savior taught that men will be held to account for ‘every idle word’ in the day of judgment.”

In today’s culture cussing is normal. People cuss when they’re happy and excited. People cuss when they’re mad and even when they’re sad. Even though the world throws curse words around like it’s nothing, we are to be set apart. We are not to imitate the world and the way the people of the world communicate with each other.

According to the American Heritage Dictionary the definition of the root of the word profane is: to treat with irreverence, to put to an improper, unworthy, or degrading use, abuse. Profanity then is defined as the use of abusive, vulgar or irreverent language. Wikipedia adds rude and insulting to the definition. We are never to insult Yahuah.

In the August 2010 Psychology Today article it was reported that in the mid-1990s the use of swear words by men was 67 percent for women 33 percent. Just 10 years later it was shown men were at 55%, women at 45%.

The words you speak become the house you live in. Speak life or death!“Once a word has been allowed to escape, it cannot be recalled.”

Profanity is the common crutch of the conversational cripple“If any man think it a small matter to bridle his tongue, he is much mistaken.”

“Please, dear Yahuah, make my words today sweet and tender—for tomorrow I may have to eat them.

“Speech is a mirror of the soul; As a man speaks, so he is.”

“You cannot hide the heart, when the mouth is open.”

“Profanity makes ignorance audible.”

“The tongue is the most dangerous, destructive, and deadly weapon available to man…We never gain anything or improve our own character by trying to tear down another.”

“Whenever you get red in the face, whenever you raise your voice, whenever you get “Hot under the collar,” or angry,…know that the Spirit of Yahuah is leaving you and the spirit of Satan is beginning to take over.

At times we may feel justified in arguing or fighting…Do not be deceived…You can recognize the Spirit of Messiah within you when you speak to one another or speak of another person with a warm smile instead of with a frown.”
